Meet the Instructors

Carol

It all began in 1986 with a neighbor, her sweatband and an awesome aerobics outfit! After watching her drive off in her get-up several times a week, I finally worked up the courage to ask her where she was going. She responded with two words that would change my life forever: “To JAZZERCISE !”

Shortly after, a friend invited me to a Jazzercise class in Garden Grove and I finally tried it. Needless to say, I absolutely loved it! After the class was over, I realized that this was the only exercise I'd ever done that I honestly felt I COULD DO FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE! I had finally found a form of exercise that didn't feel like exercise!

I soon decided to try out as an instructor and 2010 marks my 23rd year of teaching and I still love it as much as the day I started. For 12 years, I owned and operated a Jazzercise Center in Placentia with 25 classes per week, 16 babysitters, 25 class managers and 8 instructors. Today, we operate out of Top Cats Dance Club where we can comfortably accommodate large groups as we continue to grow! We have a great stereo system, wood floor, air conditioning, ceiling fans and of course, disco balls (LOVE IT).

I have also been a certified personal trainer for 12 years now, and love helping clients meet all of their fitness goals. Additionally, I am both ACE and NASM certified. I have a home gym and love working with weights.

I am also a proud mother and grandmother! My beautiful daughter is 21 years old and currently attends Concordia University in Irvine .  I have a beautiful grandson who is now 7 years old, and he is the spitting image of my son, who passed away in 2004.

And of course, I've saved the best for last! This September, my loving husband and I will celebrate 31 years together! And we plan on staying married for at least 80 more! He cooks, cleans, cries at movies, and loves to snuggle. We love to watch TV, go to the movies and travel together. I try to drag him hiking with me at least once a week. But hands-off ladies, he's taken!

Jazzercise has been a part of my life for over 23 years, serving as an example to my children and friends of how important exercise is. We must all strive to keep a healthy heart, improve our overall fitness, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. This is the key to feeling great about yourself and looking your absolute best!

Please feel free to share any concerns you may have with me before or after class. I feel like it helps us to get to know each other better. If you have a question and do not have a chance to talk to me before or after class, please feel free to email me at : jazzplacentia@msn.com or call me at home 714-996-3334.

Jenny

I have been Jazzercising since 2000, after the birth of my first son. I had tried other forms of exercise and found that Jazzercise was the only one that kept me coming back and wanting more. I became a certified Jazzercise instructor in January, 2002. I love teaching Jazzercise because it gives me the opportunity to help other people stay fit and healthy. I also enjoy meeting new and exciting people in my classes.

In my personal life, I am a mother of three wonderful children (Lexis, 10; Garrett, 9; & Logan , 6). All three of them keep me really busy between school, Girl Scouts and sports. I also have a wonderful and supportive husband, which I am still working on getting him to take my class. My daughter has started taking my classes and I hope I am a good role model to her and my boys to how important it is to always stay active ! One of my long-term goals' is to get her teaching in 8 years :) !

What I love most about Jazzercise is with the busy schedules we all have, there are so many options to get your work out in through-out the week. I look forward to seeing you in class.

Krystal

I became a certified Jazzercise instructor in July of 2004, but Jazzercise has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As the daughter of a former instructor, I grew up watching my mom (Kathy) learn, practice, and teach routines. Now that I'm an instructor, I feel so honored that my mom takes my classes.

For me, Jazzercise is a fun way to release the stress of the day and spend an hour just dancing in the moment. I love that Jazzercise introduces me to fresh new music that may not always get radio airplay, but of course I love the radio hits that we do too! One of my favorite aspects to teaching is being able to provide interesting anecdotes about the artist, quote the obscure lyrics, or share how I picture the “scene” of the song. Mostly, I believe that Jazzercise is about feeling good and having fun. It's such a joy for me each time I take the stage.

In my personal life, I'm a student pursuing a career in Speech Pathology, and I'm also a substitute teacher for grades K-12. I'm married to a great guy named Robert, and we like to get out of the house and go kayaking, hiking, or skiing anytime we have a chance. I'm also a bit of a t.v. junkie (especially when it comes to “The Office”). To relax, I like to curl up with my cat Smokey and watch a Doris Day movie or read a Mary Higgins Clark novel.

Though I'm a bit of an introvert off stage, my personality comes out when the microphone is on. Thank you for reading and letting me share a little about myself in this brief biography, and I look forward to seeing you in class very soon!

Tiffany

When I moved to California in 2006, I immediately began looking for a Jazzercise studio I could join. My job keeps me hopping around so I needed one with a great schedule and even better hours. (I work for a cell phone manufacturer in their marketing department). My office moved to Brea in 2007 and that is when I found Carol and her studio at Top Cats. It only took one class of hers to hook me. And I was so happy to have Jazzercise back in my life. What was even better was when she approached me about becoming an instructor. I started dreaming about teaching Jazzercise back in NY. So this was an opportunity I didn't want to pass up. Carol helped me through the process and I was certified June 21st 2007 . The rest is history. The students here really helped me to get through the beginner jitters, then the not-so-beginner jitters and help me every time I teach still. I am so grateful to all of our students for making me feel welcome and making each class so much fun.

On my off time I am trying to learn to play golf better, I sew and hang out with my cat, Finnegan. I travel back to NY to see my family whenever I can. My mom is still my best friend and I miss her always. And visiting my 4 year old niece is amazing. Beautiful, smart and full of endless energy. When I get there the rest of the family gets to rest.

Fun facts - I haven't grown taller since the 9th grade. I seemed to have stopped at 4'11". I turned 35 years old in 2009. I love to sing and even karaoke (but if you ever take my class you would figure that out for yourself). Some people think I have some Asian roots in my family tree, but I do not. Mostly Italian and I can make the marinara sauce to prove it. And lastly - my all time favorite Jazzercise routine is Run Run Away.

Pam

I began Jazzercising in 1988 with my mom. The pumpin' 80's music and fun routines kept me coming back for more!!! After having my three beautiful children, Kylie, Dylan & Austin, I discovered that during my pregnancy, I had become FAT! However, I knew what my answer was… I was going to get back into shape with Jazzercise! So I joined back up and started going as much as possible. I would go to Carol Haxton’s center, and Wow! She was so inspirational! Always encouraging me (not only me … everyone there). She would tell us that we could do anything if we set our minds to it and put a few goals in place. That’s what I started to do. I have lost over 80 lbs since my kids were born.

Because I was determined and inspired, I started giving it 100%! I started weight training and going to Jazzercise regularly! I was becoming the best me that I could be! All thanks to Jazzercise, encouragement from friends and family and some determination on my part! My life started to change, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally! I was certified March 11th of this year!!!! And I want YOU to know that it can change YOUR life too!
